Strawberry trifle | Sponge cake layered with strawberry whipped cream | party special | kids friendly

Have you been guessing what had been the fate of  sponge cake (click the link  for the recipe ) in the last post???.Here it is.... it found its way to happily be transformed to a humble ,luscious strawberry trifle.

Trifle is an English dessert dish made from thick (or often solidified) custard, diced fruit interwoven with sponge fingers or more delicate sponge cake thin layer and/or fruit juice/syrup (fruit trifle) and almost always topped with whipped cream. The fruit and soft sponge layer (or soaked as otherwise dry savoiardi (ladyfingers)) are suspended in fruit-flavoured jelly. These ingredients are usually arranged to produce three or four layers. (source :wikipedia).

Strawberries have slowly begun to vanish from the aisles of super markets .As the sun is at is peak these tiny sweeties and heart throb of  berry lovers have become way too much pricey .So until we see the strawberries ,next season in all it's glory , enjoy this Strawberry trifle with your family as a  evening  treat or as an after lunch treat .

INGREDIENTS

  • 4"           Sponge cake (click the link )
  • 250 ml   whipping cream
  • 100gms   strawberry
  • 2 tbsp      sugar
  • 2 tbsp sugar +4 tbsp water (optional)
                    or

  • any fruit juice (optional)

PROCEDURE FOR TRIFLE

1. With a serrated knife cut the sponge cake into two halves.

2.  If you are serving individual portions as i have done then cut roundels of sponge cake with the          glass you are serving it in <for the perfect layers ,invert the glass and cut it .

3. Roughly pulse the strawberries with sugar in a blender or with a immersion blender .Reserve some      strawberries for garnish.

4. Add whipping cream to a clean and dry bowl and whip it until soft peak are formed.now add the         strawberry crush and whip until stiff peaks are formed it takes nearly  12 mints .Do not over whip       the cream or else you will  end up with strawberry butter .

5. The trick to check whether your cream is whipped is... turn up side down the bowl your are                whipping the cream ,if it does not fall down then you are done.

6  Layer the sponge cake and cream alternately in the glass you are serving ,garnish with strawberries .

7.  If you wish you can moist the sponge cake with sugar syrup or any other juice before layering.
