How to make canapes | Indian style canapes

Starting this week with the  "Meatless Monday's" series .Last week was quiet busy with kids relaxing at home due to their school science exhibition going on .So no regular classes and the exhibits were open to parents in the evening .When kids are at home apart from their weekends ,they really get bored .And secondly they need something to much on every second  hour ."Mom, I am hungry what do I eat ".Kids are always demanding, they always need something novel to be fed .

On our last trip to India my eyes fell upon these canapes on the supermarket shelf .These were ready  use ,means no tension of baking or frying .Hey !!I just grabbed it and added to the cart .These came to my rescue, just had some boiled chickpeas lying in the fridge .Made a spicy tangy chickpea and sweet corn chat and served it .

What are canapes ? canapes are bite sized food usually served as starters .It could be a piece of bread or  pastry with a savoury topping .This is my version of canapes with the readily available ingredients .So let your creative juices flow and adorn these canapes.
These prove to be a no hassle starter for a large gathering or a party . Just mix them ahead and serve as needed .

Lets check it out how I made it .....

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup boiled  or canned chickpeas
  • 1/2 cup canned sweet corn
  • 1 cucumber
  • 6 olives
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper powder
  • 1/8 tsp lemon salt
  • 1/8 tsp mint powder
  • salt to taste
  • Cilantro to garnish

Directions:

  • Chop olives and cucumber finely.
  • To a bowl add all the ingredients ,mix it .
  • Follow the instructions on the canape box on how to use it  .
  • Fill it just before serving .

Tips:

  • If using canned chickpeas make sure to drain them well .
  • I have used lemon salt as lemon juice would make it watery and the canape would turn soggy .
  • You  can add chopped green chillies for spice quotient.
